Occupation details and duties

Financial Investment Adviser develops and implements financial plans for individuals or organisations, and advises on investment strategies and their taxation implications, securities, insurance, pension plans and real estate. Registration or licensing may be required.

Typical tasks and duties

Financial Investment Advisor may perform the following tasks:

  • interview clients to determine their financial status and objectives, discussing financial options and developing financial plans and investment strategies
  • monitor investment performance, and review and revise investment plans based on changes in the market
  • arrange to buy and sell stocks and bonds for clients
  • advise on investment strategies, sources of funds and distribution of earnings
  • set financial objectives, and develop and implement strategies to achieve them
  • assist clients in meeting superannuation compliance requirements
  • direct the collection of financial, accounting and investment information and the preparation of budgets, reports, forecasts and statutory returns.
  • Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
  • Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with an additional qualification at least Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma level in a highly relevant field of study and at least two years of post qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
  • Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree without a highly relevant field of study and at least three years of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years;
