Production or Plant Engineer plans, directs and coordinates the design, construction, modification, continued performance and maintenance of equipment and machines in industrial plants, and the management and planning of manufacturing activities.
Typical tasks and duties
Production or Plant Engineer may perform the following tasks:
- determine standards and policies for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection and maintenance, according to engineering principles and safety regulations
- inspect plant and machinery to ensure optimum performance occurs
- direct the maintenance of plant buildings and equipment and coordinate the requirements for new designs, surveys and maintenance schedules
- prepare contracts and specifications for the construction and acquisition of facilities
- schedule and plan production activities
- test newly installed machines and equipment to ensure they are compliant with requirements and specifications.
